Photo Walk Follow-Up

Well, now that I’m feeling a bit better rested–and have a pot of tea in me–I think I’m due some reflections on the most recent of Nick and I’s increasingly well-regarded photo walkabouts. Although, with less actually walking about going on I do reckon the name has diminishing accuracy. In the words of a once-Hoosier smarter than me, “so it goes.”

So, this week’s walk was very humid. Stupidly so, in my opinion, which makes modeling uncomfortable. So given that, our model Caitlin Davies was a wonderful lady. Our goal this week was to experiment with strobe lighting, which I think was accomplished. I ended up falling back a bit and playing instructor, so, not much to show this time around, I’m afraid. I’m going to try and work with Ms Davies again sometime, though, so, keep your eyes peeled for more, ah, “me,” shots.

Another Photo Walkabout Tomorrow

It’s time tomorrow for yet another photo walkabout, when my dear buddy Nicholas and I wander around looking like absolutely ridiculous human beings and pointing things at cameras while asking you to come along and do the same. This time we once more have a model, who once more is pretty. Wouldn’t want to break trend here. Don’t believe me? How about a picture? Yeah?

See? Like I said. So, the plan is tomorrow, May 10, 6pm, at West and Washington St here in the fine city of Indianapolis. Free as always to come, but we encourage tipping of the model, who’s coming out and being a good sport so you can get awesome pictures. If you need to get ahold of me about it, use any of the contact thingers down in the site footer. Seriously people, they’re their so you can contact me. Hit me up. Keep me company. Stalk me at night. Please, no Phil Collins outside my window, though.

Some Shots From Tonight

Rain be damned, these badassery shots just called out for some of that Fight Club/Die Hard 4 uber-grittiness.

Walk, Walk, Walk

Quick reminder, all, the next photo walkabout is tomorrow evening, 6:30pm, Coxhall Park, Carmel, Indiana. Bring a camera of any variety, because, well, it’s about the pictures and not the equipment. And boy, we do intend to take some pictures.

Catching Up On Photos: Night Walk

OK, I finally got some overdue photos processed tonight, so let’s start with the results of the other week’s “Nick and Derek’s Photo Walkabout: Night Edition.”

Thanks to Bill, Tony, Nakul, Sarah, and everyone else who came out with Nick and I despite the late hour. It was a good deal of fun.

Photo Walkabout Commences in 1:13

In an hour thirteen the next walkabout commences, so it’s time for y’all to close out the Facespaces and start making your way to the intersection of New York and West in downtown Indy to meet Mr. henry and myself for a couple hours of night shooting at the canal.

Fail to do so and we take no responsibility for the life of regret you will lead as a result.

Photo Walkabout Treks the Canal, Goes Vampire

walkaboutNick and I will once again be representing Grimey Studios and Roberts Imaging in the field as we invite everyone out for a free night of shooting, advice, and community. This time we’ll be hitting the White River Canal, downtown Indianapolis. Grab a camera, grab a friend (or two), tell a student, and meet us out there. For added fun, it’s a late shoot. We’ll be meeting at 9:00PM so we can try and catch the canal at night, with everything lit up in gorgeous and unusual colors.

This is a great photographic experience for shooters of all experience levels. For those of you just getting going you’ll have the challenge of shooting a night scene and get some experience with IS and tripods, and for you seasoned vets it never hurts to push yourself to find interest in what’s presented to you.

You can check out some shots from last week’s shoot at the Roberts Raw blog.

Nick and I also maintain a Flickr group through Roberts for anyone who shows up to any photo walkabout to post shots to, and you can find that here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/nick-and-dereks-walkabout/

As always, these photo walkabouts are free, just show up. We hope to see you there.

Photo Walk Walks Again This Tuesday

20090811-DSC_5661Whew, s’been a while since I blogged this up here, but if you’ve missed the Grimey Studios / Roberts Imaging photowalks, we’ve been doing them, I’ve just been forgetting to say so.

So. We’re walking this coming Tuesday, which is all August 18th and stuff. Meeting place: downtown Indianapolis, Illinois and Washington (under the Artsgarden, outside the Champps). Bring a camera, a friend, a spouse, extra batteries. If you’re down, bring a buck or two to throw towards whatever model I can scare up to work with us (yes, we’re gonna try to go back to shooting models, I like’em.)

This’ll be rain or shine, my droogies. Rain we go inside to the mall and Artsgarden, shine we stay outside around the same. It’ll be good for urban portraiture: glass and steel and cement all around. And aesthetically-pleasing glass, concrete, and cement at that.

So, if you want more pictures like the one at right (that’s Erin, who kindly donated her time and sexiness to our last photowalk with Nikon and Jeff Penn), then be sure to, you know, be there, if you can.
