We Were Rockstars

We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.

Mmmm. Feel that? That’s the excitement of a new photo series over here on ZmZ. Another crowd-participation one like The Great Chicken Skull Revival, but with a different angle. This time, it’s all studio lights and drama as I turn every day people into rockstars. We’re so inundated with publicity shots that they’re part of our cultural zeitgeist. Without even consciously acknowledging it, we know rockstars when we see them because the pictures are always the same. The distance. The aloofness. The detachment. The condescension. The pretentiousness. That bored look of contempt. Yup.

So, maybe we’ll never grow up to be big rockstars, celebrated victims of our fame. Hell, with the rise of digital, it might be bordering on impossible to be a rock superstar. But one shot at a time, one sneering, contemptuous cover shot at a time, I can make us all into rockstars. And since we continue to support the uninspired shlock that is their marketing tactics, I’d say it’s the elast we deserve.

Check out the new stuff here. It’ll grow over time. Rather like most rockstars… Buh dum tish.
